He was predeceased by: his parents, Johnny Clarence "JC" Kent and Lillie Mae Black Kent; and his brother James Kent. He is survived by: his wife Harriette Dickens Kent; his sons, Clay Kent (Carolyn) of Milledgeville and Timothy Kent (Stephanie) of Oklahoma City; his stepchildren, Jan Garland (Ronny) of Sparta and Mark Rachels (Jeanne) of Conyers; his grandchildren, Leila Rose Kent, Paul Garland (Melissa), Megan Bass (Owen), Zach Rachels and Jeremy Rachels; his siblings, Ruth Smith of Sandersville, Ann Dye (Roger) of Sparta, Gail Jackson (Ricky) of Riddleville and William Kent (Pauline) of Jasper; and his sister-in-law Judy Kent of Sandersville. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
