He was predeceased by: his wife Sara Braddy Ely; his parents, Henry Lee and Lillie Mae Johnson Ely; and his siblings, Ruby Cannady, Barnett Ely, H. B. Ely and Doris Thigpen.
He is survived by: his children, Brian Ely (Joanne) and Susan Padgett (Jim); his brother James Ely of Soperton, GA; and his grandchildren, Kaylee Braddy, Hannah Padgett, Jake Padgett (Anna) and Colton Ely. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
