He was predeceased by: his parents, Bernie R. Thigpen and Vera McLendon Thigpen; his siblings, Frances Thigpen, Hazel Sweat and Bernie "Junior" Thigpen Jr.; and his son-in-law Rufus Mixon.
He is survived by: his wife Carolyn E. Thigpen; his children, Billy Thigpen (Sarah) of Luling, LA and Deborah Mixon of Cochran, GA; his sisters, Joyce Hayes of Soperton, GA and Louise Logan of Soperton, GA; his grandchildren, Blaine Thigpen (Kristyn), Wesley Thigpen (Holly) and Dawn Phillips (Mike); and his great grandchildren, Madilyn, Maddox and Emrie. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
