He was predeceased by: his parents, James H. Atkinson and Margaret Game Atkinson; and his brother Robert Atkinson. He is survived by: his wife Camilla Atkinson (Cammie); his sons, Zack Atkinson (Diane) and Brett Atkinson (Sandra Moore); and his grandchildren, Lauren, Haley and Jordan Atkinson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Good Samaritan Fund at Smyrna First UMC.
