He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, William Richard and Evelyn Welsh; his wife Betty Jean Peplow; and his sons, John Hoyt of Centerville and Robert Bryan (Kimberly) of Millington, Tennessee. He was also cherished by four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Coal Valley, where he was a member.
