He was predeceased by: his parents, Bishop Ernest Cleveland Moates and Helen Louise Foster Moates. He is survived by: his wife Donna Manning Moates; his sons, Jonathan E. Moates (Kim) and Jeremy D. Moates; his granddaughters, Dakota Lee Moates and Addison Marie Moates; and his siblings, Jean Moates Dean (Bob) of Greer, SC and Dan Moates (Linda) of Ocala, FL. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
