She was predeceased by: her parents, Wesley Benjamin Commander, Jr. and Laurette Aycock Strickland; and her brother Wesley Benjamin Commander, III (Sonny). She is survived by: her son James "Jimbo" Shumate (Deirdre) of Plains; her sisters, Patricia Duke of Shellman and Brenda Smith of Shellman; and her grandchildren, Jennifer, Jack and Bentley. She is also survived by 4 great grandchildren.
