He was predeceased by: his parents, Marion Euel and Doris Baxley Hammett; his wife Judy Latimer Hammett; and his brothers, Kenneth Hammett (Janette) and Michael Hammett.

He is survived by: his daughter Jennifer Askew (Russell); his grandson Stephen Askew; and his siblings, Marian Hammett Dudash, Phillip Hammett (Bonnie) and Ronald Hammett. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
