He was predeceased by: his parents, Clifford Amos Rice and Doris Virginia Padgett Rice; his children, Victoria Marie Rice and Michael Eugene Rice; his brother Perry; his sister-in-law Lori Rice; and his grandson Joseph Wayne Ray, Jr..

He is survived by: his children, Wendy Rice Ray (Joe) of Whitesburg, Melanie Rice Driver (Ronald) of Carrollton, Karen Langford of McLean, TX and James P. Rice of Acworth; his sisters, Judy L. Brown of Flowery Branch, Hope Swann (Mark) of Bremen and Virginia Shaw (Allen) of Bremen; his grandchildren, Ashley Ray, Lexie Ray, Lauren Driver, Kaley Driver, Landon Driver, Shelby Poole and Denise Langford; and his great grandchild Kiera Poole. He is also survived by several other nieces, nephews and other relatives.
