He was predeceased by: his parents, Woodrow Hardy and Catherine Hardy; the mother of his children Mary Helen Brightwell Hardy; and his sisters, Jeanette Nipper and Ida Kay Smoak.
He is survived by: his wife Patricia Henderson Hardy; his children, Cathy Gardner (Chuck), Mary Baggett (Doug) and Caroll E. Hardy, Jr. (Richard); his grandchildren, Tommy Strickland, Jr. (April), Matthew Gardner, Andrea Gardner and Tayler Douglas; his great grandchild Thomas Strickland III; his sisters, Barbara Ann Portwood of Thomaston, GA and Sandra Gay of Richmond Hill, GA.; and his grandchildren, Cindy Lowrey (Robert), Katie, Kristen Gilmore, Sophia Witmer, Wendy Corbin (Tom), Natalie, Knox, Tricia Ainsworth, Olivia and Hope. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
