He was predeceased by: his grandparents, Freeman, Evelyn Barnhill, Herbert and Jo Mixson. He is survived by: his parents, Joseph Mixson Sr. and Peggy Barnhill Mixson; his sister Jessica Runge (Nick); his nieces, Francesca St. John (Spencer) and Abbigail Runge; his aunts, Jan Kelly, Judy Boyd (Buck) and Patsy Barnhill; his uncle William Mixson; his great-nephew Ryder; and his pet Buddy.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the local humane society would be greatly appreciated.
