He was predeceased by: his parents, Frederick Michael Shepard and Margaret Phillips Willis (Peggy); his wife Liz (Liz); and his brother Swayne Shepard. He is survived by: his children, Frederick Michael Shepard, Jr. (Pam) of Dawsonville, Georgia and Stacy Shepard Harp (Rick) of Milton, Georgia; his brothers, Roger Sims Shepard (Sharry) and Charles Atwell Shepard (Marybeth); and his grandchildren, Connor Michael Harp and Brooke Elizabeth Harp. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
