He was predeceased by: his wife Martha Ann Strongman Prater; and his parents, Mary Pauline Williams and Fred Ray Prater, Sr.. He is survived by: his children, Kim Johnson (Steve) and Brad Prater; his brothers, Bill Prater and Harry; his sister-in-law Sharon Strongman; and his nieces and nephews, Rusty Prater, Amy Prater Eldridge and David Strongman.
