He was predeceased by: his father James Thomas; his former wife Dorothy May Leonard; his son Jimmy Lee Leonard; and his siblings, Bill Leonard and Mary Clark.
He is survived by: his wife Jerrie Leonard; his children, David Leonard, Jr. of Alabama, Scott Leonard (Joy) of East Ridge, Roger McWhorter (Jill) of Alabama and Sharon McWhorter Lybrand of Rossville; and his sister-in-law Wanda Leonard. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
