He was predeceased by: his parents, John Wiley Layfield, Sr. and Gladys Jordan Layfield; his wife Ruby Catherine Trippe Layfield; his son John Wiley Layfield, III; and his sisters, Mary Ann Horst, Annette Plowden and Hazel Taylor.

He is survived by: his granddaughter Mindy Layfield Arp (Ron) of Aragon; and his great grandchildren, Sadie Arp and Sophie Arp. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
