He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Lucas Merritt and Nora Matthews Merritt; his brothers, Ronnie Merritt and Michael Merritt; and his brother-in-law Jerry Gurley.
He is survived by: his children, Cody Merritt (Sarah) and Jade Merritt; his grandchildren, Miles Merritt, Lainey Merritt and Reagan Ward; and his siblings, Barry Gibbs, Darlene Gurley and Tammy Pointer (Jason). He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
