She was loved and cherished by many people including : her mother Helen Ruth Worley Gay; her adoptive father Hobert Gay; her husband Gene Smith; her sons, Douglas Smith (Debra) and Greg Smith (Kelly); her grandchildren, Autumn Smith, Brittany Byrd (Russ), Thomas LevinSmith (Amy) and Brandon Smith; and her great grandchildren, Morgan, Trinity and Olivia Byrd. She was also cherished by several nieces and nephews.
