He was predeceased by: his parents, William Ernest and Frances Lorene Steele; his stepfather John Stewart; and his grandmother Maude Steele. He is survived by: his wife Audry Darlene Steele; and his sons, Eric Steele (Rhonda) of Ringgold and Dewayne Steele of Ringgold.
