Fred Eugene Pursley Obituary
Fred Eugene Pursley, 87 of Rock Spring, GA went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 26th, 2023.
Fred was born and raised in the Chattanooga area and attended school at Clifton Hills and East Lake. He served his country faithfully and honorably in the Navy Reserves and active duty in the Army. Fred was part of the 101st Airborne Unit earning his Parachutist Badge and Medical Aide certificate. He was also an ordained minister and evangelist. Fred pastored in many area churches including but not limited to: Grace Baptist Tabernacle in Noble, GA, Salem Road Baptist Church in Rossville, GA, Friendship Baptist Church in LaFayette, GA, Bennett Road Bible Baptist Church in East Ridge, TN, and Ebenezer Baptist Church in Ringgold, GA. Fred was a dedicated pastor and loved the Lord with all his heart. He was often seen studying his Bible and other religious texts and listening to sermons on tape. Fred enjoyed weight lifting and karate, woodworking, working in his shop, and playing the piano. He was a talented musician and taught himself to play piano by ear. Fred was affectionately known as "Granddaddy" by many and is described as a sweetheart with a funny but dry sense of humor, and a quick wit. He is dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Lillian Pursley; brothers, J.P. Pursley, Harry Pursley, Jr., Willard Pursley, and Frank Pursley.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Patricia Pursley; children: Cynthia (Danny) Stone and Sheila Pursley; brother, Clayton Pursley; grandchildren: Darren Stone, Erica Conaway, and Brandon Conaway; great grandchildren: Kaleigh Conaway, Kaitlyn Watson, Madilynn Conaway, Bryson Conaway, Colton, Heath, and Gisele Stone; several nieces and nephews; and many church family members.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 2nd, 2023 at 1pm in the South Crest Chapel with Pastor Wilton Grimes officiating. Interment will follow in the Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the caring staff of Hospice of Chattanooga for their kindness and compassion.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5-8pm and Thursday from 11am until the funeral hour in the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home & Crematory, Rossville.
