He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Otis Sutton and Minnie Bagwell Sutton; and his son Brian Sutton. He is survived by: his wife Mary F. Sutton; his sons, William D. Sutton, Jr., George Duane Sutton and Shawn Douglas Sutton; and his sisters, Annette Abbott, Dorothy Terry and Alice Brooks. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
