He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Mathis and Julia Stulce Mathis; his brother Tim Mathis; his son Richard Sabine; and his former wife Susan Davenport Mathis.
He is survived by: his partner's children, Rich and Rachel; his wife Ginger Minor Mathis (Sabine) of Ringgold, GA; his children, Matt Mathis (Lindsay) of Chattanooga, TN, Marcus Mathis (Ashley) of Denton, TX and Rachel Dunn (Nathan) of Ooltewah, TN; his grandchildren, Pop Pop, Nate, Bella Dunn of Ooltewah, TN, Brooklyn, Eden, Abel Mathis of Denton, TX, Eli, Crew and Lincoln Mathis of Chattanooga, TN.; and his siblings, Don Mathis (Kathy) of Jacksonville, FL, Judi Cagle, Mary Stewart (Fred), Geri Gannaway (Kerry) of Ooltewah, TN, Carol Welden (Glen) of Piedmont, AL, Susan Anderson (Howard) of Chattanooga, TN and David Mathis (Sue) of Lawrenceville, GA.
