He was predeceased by: his parents, Luther Crayton Spates Jr. and Marjorie B. Spates; his brother Clinton Leon Spates; and his nephew Gregory Shane Phillips. He is survived by: his brothers, Bobby Mayo and Marion "Mopey" Spates; and his nieces and nephews, Brandon Spates, Brittany Spates, Shelby Spates, Hannah Rae, Jessica McCann, Melody McCann and Butch Spates. He is also survived by several other family members and friends.
A graveside service was held on Wednesday, January 8th 2025 at 10:30 AM at the Chattanooga National Cemetery (1200 Bailey Ave, Chattanooga, TN 37404).
