He was predeceased by: his son Chris Slater; his parents, Hugh E. Slater and Lavina Bowman Slater; and his siblings, Bryce Slater, Bill Slater, Doug Slater and Betty Jo Hill.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Nell Harris Slater of Ringgold, GA.; his children, Tammy Slater Dale (Keith) of Colorado Springs, CO. and Jim Slater of Ft. Oglethorpe, GA.; his siblings, Clara Schofield of Flat Rock, AL., Dora Atkins of Ft. Payne, AL., Dan Slater of Flat Rock, AL. and Butch Slater of Springfield, IL.; his sister-in-law Doris Slater of Flat Rock, AL.; and his grandson Caleb Slater. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family ask donations be made to help with relocation expenses to Colorado.
