He was predeceased by: his parents, James Frank Downer and Ann Nettles Downer. He is survived by: his wife Sally Jo Downer of Richland; his son Richard Melton Downer of Atlanta; his stepchildren, Daniel Scott Kelley (Karen) of Dover and Mary Beth Castleberry (Clint) of Richland, Georgia; his grandchildren, Zane, Wimberly, Bayne and Bryce; and his siblings, James Sanders Downer (Jane) of Atlanta, Deborah Downer Chase (Russ) of Hendersonville and Dora Downer Carroll (Pete) of Kalispell, Montana. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
