He was predeceased by: his parents, William C. Merz and Evelyn Skidmore Merz; and his brother William Merz. He is survived by: his wife Maureen Merz; his son Chris; his daughter-in-law Danielle Merzatta; his nieces, Cherie and Cara Merz; his granddaughter Laurily Merzatta; and his pet Sugar.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center.
