He was predeceased by: his parents, Edwin Matthew Mathis, Jr. and Mary Nell Mathis; his sister Wanda Sharon Mathis; his uncle Quinton; and his aunt Frances Mathis.

He is survived by: his son David Mathis; his grandchildren, Taylor Mathis and Morgan Mathis of Macon; his cousin Angela Mathis Ward (Max) of Dixie; his nephews, Keith Ward and Kevin Ward of Dixie; and his close friend Pam Williams (Doug) of Quitman.

In honor and memory of Mr. Mathis' life, the family suggest that contributions be made to the Georgia Sheriffs Youth Home, 5671 Boys Ranch Rd., Hahira, GA 31632.
