It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Barbara Jean Hortman Ray of Perry, Georgia, who passed away on September 18, 2024, at the age of 86, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Calvin Hortman and Fannie Mae Walton Hortman; and the father of her children Robert Ray. She is survived by: her brothers, William (late Hawkinsville) and Franklin; her children, Lisa Ray Grovenstein (John) of Norcross, Robin Ray, Bob Ray (Karen) of Perry and Adam Ray (Leah) of Lexington, KY; and her grandchildren, Jack Grovenstein (Meghan), Evan Grovenstein (Mary), Callie Ray, Rob Ray (Anna), Ethan Ray, Luke Ray, Sawyer, Finley, Catherine, Ava Grovenstein and Robbie Ray.
Visitation was held on Friday, September 20th 2024 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Rooks Funeral Home (109 W White Rd, Byron, GA 31008). A graveside service was held on Saturday, September 21st 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Roberta City Cemetery (607 S Mathews St, Roberta, GA 31078).
Jean enjoyed flowers while she was living and has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hardison Baptist Church, 13845 Hwy. 42 South, Byron GA 31008 or to Baptist International Missions, Inc., James Ray Ministry, P.O. Box 9, Harrison TN 37341-0009.
