He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Wesley and Ruby Kennedy James; his daughter Karen Nichols; and his siblings, Ernest Robert James, Joyce James Bistororious and Clarice James Mitchiner.
He is survived by: his wife Janice E. James (Farmer) of Pelham; his sons, Charles (Brian) and James (Susan) of Raleigh, NC; his grandchildren, Tyler James of Dallas, TX, Mallory James of Raleigh, NC, Meredith James of Raleigh, NC, Stephanie Dowling, Christopher Dowling, Trace Frailey, Kacie Hannon, Mark Hannon, Asher Exum, KJ Hannon and Kenlee Hannon; and his sister Barbara James Klawitter (Betty James Whitfield).
