He was predeceased by: his parents, Beryl Burns and Rachel Burns (Kinnison). He is survived by: his wife Carol Lynn Stith Burns (Lynn); his children, Lisa Burns (Randy Ball), Leigh Burns (Mark Whittmyer) and Andy Burns (Megan); his sister Edna Mae Pirkle; his grandchildren, Sage Burns, Nate Burns, Ethan Ball and Maggie Burns; his stepgrandchildren, Jordan Hogland and Austin Whittmyer; his niece Brenda Dudley (Dan); and his nephews, Michael Pirkle (Jodi), Danny Pirkle (Lori) and Hal Tarleton (Tanya).

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be shared with St. Andrew's in the Pines Episcopal Church and the Atlanta Community Food Bank.
