He was predeceased by: his daughter Crystal Sue Merritt; and his grandparents, Lucille, Red Jump, Raymond, Wilma Carelock, Alonzo and Gladys Merritt.
He is survived by: his wife Elaine Edge Merritt of Patterson; his stepchildren, Miranda Nelms of Mt Vernon, Justin Nelms (Michelle) of Darien and Ladson Nelms of Hazlehurst; his parents, A. C. Merritt and Lois Carelock Merritt of Hazlehurst; his siblings, Carolyn Garrett (Joe) of Hazlehurst and Stacy Merritt (Kristi) of Hazlehurst; his grandchildren, Zayden Nelms, Raegan Nelms, Caelum Nelms, Henry Nelms and Olin Nelms; and his nieces and nephews, Sebrenna Garrett, Kella McCall, Alara McCall, Bryson Merritt, Luke McCall and Riley Garrett.
The Merritt Family and Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home respectfully ask all in attendance to continue to follow social distancing guidelines set by our local health district and the CDC.
