George Brown wrote a sympathy message

“Few men have endured and thrived like Charlie. Fighting with the USMC through unimaginable horrors in WWII's Pacific campaign Charlie then had to bury three wives. Through it all he never lost his smile and sense of humor. He was handy at most any project he set his mind to and never shied from hard work...no matter how hard. He served dutifully in the Marine Corps League enjoying the elite fraternity of his fellow U.S. Marines. His was a life. honorably and admirably lived.”
