He was predeceased by: his father Ronnie Atkins; and his brother Ronald B. Atkins, Jr.. He is survived by: his wife Barbara Roper Atkins of Odum; his mother Cynthia Lightsey Atkins; his siblings, Christy Mead (Jon), Mark Atkins (Marla) and Rhonda Atkins of Vidalia; and his stepchildren, Michael, Tony Holbert, Chris Garrett and Robin Nieto. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
