He was predeceased by: his stepmother Nadine Stephens; and his mother Zelda Stephens. He is survived by: his wife Glenda Maxey Stephens of Odum; his children, Nancy Walraven (Joseph) of Odum and Doug Stephens (Michelle) of Odum; his sisters, Sandra Batten (Tommy) of Rincon and Genelda Denison (Darrell) of Odum; his grandchildren, J. T., Maddie, Lily, Jeremiah, Jameson and Knox; his great grandchild Daxton; and his mother-in-law Patty Maxey. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
