He was predeceased by: his parents, Nellie Thompson Whitehead and William Foster Whitehead, Jr.; his wife Edith Whitehead; his daughter Sandra Faye; and his brother Jack Whitehead of Charleston, SC..

He is survived by: his children, Byron Whitehead (Barbara) and Myra Nell Dickens (Jimmy); his siblings, Betty Parham (Herbert) and Gene Whitehead of Athens, GA; his grandchildren, Chuck Whitehead, Adam Whitehead, Heath Dickens (Michelle) and Andy Dickens; and his great grandchildren, Taylor Jackson (Luke), Logan Whitehead, Anna Whitehead, Jordan Whitehead, Kaleb Dickens, Jace Dickens, Katlynn Whitehead, Lucas Whitehead and Charlie Faye Whitehead.
