It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Douglas Edward Akins of Oakwood, Georgia, born in Chicago, Illinois, who passed away on October 23, 2024, at the age of 62, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Guy Akins and Agness Mardell Wehunt Akins. He is survived by: his siblings, Brenda Akins of Lula, Ann Horsetmeyer of Thompsons Station, TN, Vernon Akins of Gainesville, Ronald Akins of Flowery Branch and Ricky Akins of Murphy, NC; his children, Misty Akins of Oakwood and John Akins; his daughter-in-law Nicole of Oakwood; and his grandchildren, Sean Akins, Alyssa Simpson, Ty Akins, Haydn Akins and Easton Akins.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, October 26th 2024 at 4:00 PM at the Chapel of Memorial Park (2030 Memorial Park Dr, Gainesville, GA 30504). Visitation was held on Saturday, October 26th 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Memorial Park Funeral Home (2030 Memorial Park Dr, Gainesville, GA 30504).
