He was predeceased by: his parents, Elizabeth Patterson Townsend and Lanier Townsend; and his siblings, Sid Townsend, Bob Townsend and Jean Mote.
He is survived by: his wife Phyllis Brewer Townsend; his children, Sandy Townsend Moore (Roger), Susan Townsend Barrett (Jim) and Charles Phillip Townsend (Chase Crenshaw); and his grandsons, Joseph, Jacob Barrett of Lilburn, Samuel Barrett of Valdosta and Stephen Moore of Oakwood.
Flowers will be accepted, but those desiring may make memorial contributions to St. Jude Children's Hospital in memory of Mr. Townsend.
