He was predeceased by: his parents, John M. Smith, and Pearlie Mae Mathis Smith, Jr.; his sisters, Jeanette Wall and Johnnie Dean Skinner; and his former wife Betty Lucile Sims Smith.
He is survived by: his wife Sara Farmer Smith of Nicholson; his children, Robbin S. Nunns (Jim) of Shelby, NC and Chris Smith (Jennifer) of Nicholson; his grandchildren, Kevin Nunns, BrookeLynn Smith and Jayce Smith; his stepchildren, Rhonda Culpepper (Ricky), Pierce Nelms (Janice), Pam Hendrix (Thomas), Tony Nelms (Teresa) and Michelle Roberts (Keith); and his stepgrandchildren, Trevor, Chris, Blake, Lorali, Michael, Caleb and Sawyer. He is also survived by six great grandchildren.
