He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Jiles Kirkland and Mamie Taylor Kirkland; his siblings, Tommy Kirkland and Merle Thomas; his wife Judy Dyal Kirkland; his children, Jan Stevens (Howell) and Scheryl Murray (Randy); and his siblings, Ronnie Kirkland (Betty), Judy Thompson (Roger) of Nicholls and Jean Milligan of Nicholls. He was also cherished by 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
