He was predeceased by: his parents, Jack Shumate and Florine Shumate. He is survived by: his wife Linda Shumate of Newborn; his children, Michael Thurman of Loganville, Tabitha Shumate of Missouri, Joshua Shumate of Monticello and Anthony Shumate of Newborn; his grandchildren, Elijah Thurman, Makylah Thurman, Liam Shumate, Braylee Shumate, Layla Shumate and McKenzie Shumate; his sister-in-law Hariett Shumate of Ellijay; his sister Jan; and his brother-in-law Eric Maxwell of Covington. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
