He was predeceased by: his parents, James Avery Smith and Doris Willene Hendley. He is survived by: his siblings, Richard "Buddy" Gaskins of Nashville, Billy Jack Gaskins of Commerce and Sandra Holbert of Ohio; and his close friend Linda Luke Gaskins of Nashville.
