He was predeceased by: his parents, Elbert Nix and Maxie Harper Nix; his wife Bonnie Joe Parker Nix; his son Jeffrey Joe "Jeff" Nix; and his siblings, Quida Carter, Mary Beth Harris, Hank Nix and Russell Nix.

He is survived by: his children, John Nix (Heather) of Adel, Jay Nix (Cathy) of Nashville and Kelly Nix; his grandchildren, Parker Nix (Allie), Merilogan Nix, Morgan Nix and Lance Trowell (Savannah); his great grandchildren, Connor, Claire and Hadley; his sisters, Juanell Haskins of Nashville and Sue Powell (Donald) of Nashville; and his pet Macy. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Nashville First Baptist Church or the National Kidney Foundation.
