He was predeceased by: his parents, Herman Sloan and Barbara Teston Sloan (James P. Short); his wife Gwen Strickland Short; his nephew Shannon Davis; and his parents-in-law, Norris and Lorena Strickland.
He is survived by: his daughter Michelle Crews (Corey) of Hickox; his grandchildren, Grace Lawson and Hayden Lawson of Waverly; his sisters, Donna Davis of Hortense, Debbie Davis of Hortense, Angie Alewine (Mike) of Hortense, Lena Sloan of Calhoun and Tina Taylor; his brother-in-law Alan Strickland (Marion) of Hickox; his nephews, Brandon Davis (Erin) of Waynesville, Hunter Strickland (Erin) of Hickox and Byron Strickland (Brooke) of Hickox; his niece Mindy Ingram (Matthew) of Hortense; and his close friends, Rick, Renee Watkins of Millington, MI and Susan Richards of Hortense.
