It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Van Thompson of Mount Vernon, Georgia, born in Ailey, Georgia, who passed away on October 5, 2022, at the age of 81, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, H. V. Thompson, Jr. and Edna Watkins Thompson; his son Herschel Van Thompson, IV; and his close friends, Jake, Hershey and Babe.
He is survived by: his wife Nina Thompson of Mt. Vernon; his children, Terri Williford (Tim) of Ailey, Tracy Smith (Lesley) of Louisville, Stephanie Branch (Archie) of Vidalia, Angie Clark of Vidalia, Amy Horne (Trent) of Acworth, Lauren Collins and Anthony Powell (Candace) of Mt. Vernon; his grandchildren, Melissa Morris, Zachary Williford, Taylor Boyd, Savannah Smith, Sadie Clare Smith, Chase Thompson, Celdon Thompson, Timber Thompson, Evan Clark, Summer Horne, Brooke Horne, Katie Collins, Camille Collins and Landon Powell; his aunt Gloria Thompson; his siblings-in-law, Chris Callow, Lisa Fulford and Danielle Steptoe; his cousins, Thomas, Judy Thompson, Ann, Tommy Sheppard, Janice Hyche, Herschel Thompson, Jimmy Thompson and Maranda Baird; and his close friend Doc Powell. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren.
