He was predeceased by: his mothers, Cassie Sorrell Hiers and Eva Giles Hiers; his siblings, John Hiers, Bud Hiers, Sid Hiers, Baker Hiers, Lois Hall and Grace Sapp; and his daughter Gina Elkins.

He is survived by: his wife Catherine Strange Hiers of Moultrie; his children, William Glenn Hiers (Carol) of Loudon, Kent Elkins of Moultrie, Kathy McLean (Jim) of Moultrie, Amy Griffin (Ricky) of Moultrie and Susan Corley (Doug) of Moultrie; his grandchildren, Megan Ford (Gates) of Doerun, Buster Elkins of Doerun, Holly Johnson (Zane) of Norman Park, Shianna Corley of Moultrie, Nathan Corley of Moultrie and Landon Griffin of Moultrie; his great grandchildren, Madison Ford and Bowen Johnson; and his siblings, Hazel Long of Moultrie and Gene Hiers (Bernice) of Moultrie.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the V.A. hospital.
