He was predeceased by: his parents, Dorsey R. Matthews and Elizabeth Taylor Matthews; his daughter Paula Matthews; and his sister Judith Matthews Bryan. He is survived by: his wife Sandra Ferrone Matthews; his son Mark Lawton Matthews (Jennifer) of Cartersville, Georgia; his grandson Knox Lawton Matthews of Cartersville, Georgia; and his siblings, Hugh Dorsey Matthews (Nancy) of Moultrie, Georgia and Melanie Matthews Scarborough of Covington, Georgia..
