He was predeceased by: his parents, Vivian McPhail Payne Godfrey and D. H. Payne; and his godparents, Lorene Day and Clyde Day. He is survived by: his children, Jackie Samuel Payne, Melissa Holt and Chasity Kelly; his granddaughter Elliana Michelle Payne; and his siblings, Jimmy Payne, Harlon Payne, Charles Godfrey, Joan Payne and Judy Powell.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, April 19th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Lifespring Community Church (2010 GA-133, Moultrie, GA 31788).
