He was predeceased by: his parents, James Milledge and Annie Estelle Sargent Holcombe; and his siblings, Thomas Eugene, Harold Eugene and Barbara Jean.

He is survived by: his wife Jeanette Paxton Holcombe of Monroe; his children, Deborah Ray (John) of Oxford, GA, Robert, Jr. (Boots) of Chattanooga, TN and Fred (Tina) of Chattanooga, TN; his grandchildren, Amelia, Abby, Ashley Ray, Scott Holcombe (Chelsea), Janna Kalin (Dan) and Luke Holcombe; his great grandchild Ava Holcombe; and his siblings, Wallace Holcombe of Central, SC and Betty Kenny (Dennis) of Memphis, TN..
