He was predeceased by: his parents, James Garland and Mattie Nichols Garland; his wife Macye Branyan Garland; his son Michael Calvin Garland; and his brother Roy Elliott Garland.
He is survived by: his son James H. Garland (Ginny) of Gray; his sister Violet Garland Hewitt of Oklahoma; his grandchildren, Ben C. Garland of New Mexico, Whit S. Nichols Garland (Trey) of Stone Mountain, Lance W. Rackley (Laura) of Gray and Derek M. Rackley of Forsyth; his great grandchildren, Ian W. Nichols Garland, James W. Rackley, John M. Rackley and Morgan Rackley; and his siblings-in-law, Ann Garland of Dawson, GA, Mae Branyan of McRae, GA and Bruce Anderson of South Carolina. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
