He was predeceased by: his parents, Murray Allen Grimes and Zelma Franks Grimes; and his siblings, Calvin O. Grimes, Binion A. Grimes, Carolyn Grimes Pulliam, Barbara Ann Grimes Veal, Linda Grimes Fields and Connie Grimes Hobbs.
He is survived by: his wife Sandy Gordon Grimes; his children, J. D. "Danny" Grimes of Tucker, GA, Merissa Grimes Fedeli (Michael) of Milledgeville, Tami Kimbrough (David) of Hendersonville, TN, Angie Long (Mich) of Dawsonville, GA and Jeff Smith (Deborah) of Philadelphia, PA; his siblings, Rosalyn Grimes of Milledgeville, Gerald A. Grimes (Elaine) of Calhoun, GA and David W. Grimes (Debbie) of Fayetteville, GA; and his grandchildren, Elizabeth Edwards, Preston Kimbrough, Michael Kimbrough, Mariah Long, Joshua Long, Hannah Smith, Jacob Smith, Tyler Smith and Alaina Fedeli. He is also survived by 4 great grandchildren.
