He was predeceased by: his former wife Lena Merle Granberry; and his sister Roslyn Hayes. He is survived by: his parents, William Pryor Barber and Elna Faye Kirkland; his wife Eileen Harkness Barber of Eatonton; his children, Susan Teresa Barber of Austell and James Daniel Barber (Jenny) of Lexington, SC; his stepsons, Hugh Brian Hilliard (Hollie) of Gray, GA and Joseph Edward Hilliard (Bridget) of Clarksville; his grandchildren, Ruby Madeline Hilliard, William Edward Hilliard of Gray, Natalie Caroline Hilliard and Hannah Catherine Hilliard of Clarksville; and his siblings, Bruce Barber of Dothan, AL, Beverly Coleman of Tallahassee, FL and Kathy Williams of Colquitt, GA. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Milledgeville.
